New well-balanced supplement of important vitamins

Released on = February 25, 2007, 12:22 pm

Press Release Author = Iztok Conic

Industry = Pharmaceuticals

Press Release Summary = A complete and well-balanced formula of
vitamins and minerals based on the latest
research into DRI*

Press Release Body = The DRI system - a tool for optimising nutritional intake
Since the 1940s, authorities all over the world have been issuing recommendations
about nutritional intake. Recommended daily dosages for vitamins and minerals are
set at levels below which an individual is likely to develop a deficiency symptom.
One factor that makes it difficult to develop nutritional recommendations is that
we all have different nutritional needs.
For every micronutrient, research scientists try to find the dose at which 50% of
the population develop a deficiency symptom. A mathematical formula is then used to
add a safety margin so that the recommended dose applies to approximately 97% of
the healthy population. In other words, if the official recommendations are
followed, 3% will not get enough nutrition. However, the method of calculation is
less important; the most important thing to remember is that today\'s nutritional
recommendations are based on the risk of developing deficiency symptoms.
Consequently, recommended doses have nothing to do with preventing illness, nor are
they related to the risk of developing undesirable effects through overdose
(toxicity).
This weakness in the recommendations was raised at a symposium in 1993. The meeting
was arranged by the Food and Nutrition Board, which is part of the American
Institute of Medicine, i.e. the organisation responsible for the general dietary
recommendations in the US. The delegates agreed to develop completely new
recommendations known as the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI). Many people saw the DRI
project as a paradigm shift in the field of nutrition. The focus switched from the
risk of developing nutritional deficiency (the basis of the traditional system) to
optimal health.
Overdosing certain vitamins and minerals can cause health problems
As expected, the new DRI figures have increased the recommended dose of a number of
nutritional substances. But perhaps to the surprise of many people the recommended
dose has been reduced for certain substances. Modern research has shown that a high
intake of vitamins and minerals is not always healthy, and can even be detrimental
to health.
Optimal, not maximal, quantities of vitamins and
minerals

Vitaminol is a multivitamin/mineral supplement based on the latest research into DRI
concerning optimisation of the body\'s intake of nutrients. It has a complete and
well-balanced formula of vitamins and minerals, and also contains polyphenols from
pomegranate extract. There is an optimal dose of each vitamin and mineral that the
body can absorb from a food supplement. This balance has been carefully considered
while developing Vitaminol, which contains only safe DRI levels of vitamins and
minerals. A well-balanced diet together with Vitaminol provides optimal nutrition,
with no risk of vitamin and mineral overdose. Vitaminol comes in vegetarian capsules
and is free from retinol, lactose, gluten and additives.
