Olympic Peninsula Travel Association (OPTA) Shouts The `O` Word Around the World

Released on: March 1, 2008, 9:38 pm

Press Release Author: Media Spree

Industry: Media

Press Release Summary: With the approaching Olympic Games in Vancouver, B.C. in 2010
there is a more visible activity on the part of the United State Olympic Committee
USOC to defend its legislated rights to the word “Olympic”. A few Olympic Peninsula
businesses have been advised by the USOC to potential infractions.

Press Release Body: The Olympic Peninsula Travel Association enjoys a special status
vis-a-vis the USOC, namely that the founding of the OPTA in 1932 predates the 1950
exemption of restrictions on the use of “Olympic”. In effect, OPTA’s use of
“Olympic” is grandfathered.

John Snyder newly appointed executive director said in an interview earlier this
week. “This is a very exciting time for our organization. With the billions dollars
being spent on the media event at hand at the Olympic Games in Vancouver Canada not
even 100 miles away from the Olympic Peninsula we provide businesses a way to
capitalize on that media attention in a way no other organization can.

With our grandfathered right to use the word Olympic in the same manner as we have
in our publications and advertisements over our 75 year history, OPTA\'s voice is
sure to be heard during the media event taking place in Canada during the 2010
Vancouver Winter Olympic. Our Triangle shaped logo was placed along the road side of
the Olympic Loop and was known as \"The Welcome sign to the Olympics\" long before
1950 plus alluring catch phrases like \"Come tour the new Olympic Loop\" or \"See the
Olympic Peninsula the Last frontier.\" These are the hallmarks of our association
coupled with modern technology and our exciting marketing strategies we currently
have in place. We plan to receive maximum benefit of the Media spectacle already
taking place. For more info on the use of the “O” word see: www.olympiclaws.com
