Press Release Body: A Cheshire woman has been awarded more than £7,000 after filing a personal injury compensation claim after she broke her ankle due to a faulty pair of high heels.
20 year old Sophie King from Knutsford, an English Literature student at Durham University, successfully won her case against shoe maker Dolcis after the 2 and a half inch heel on her shoes snapped while she was on a night out in Manchester City Centre. Sophie said: \"As I was walking down the tram platform the shoe snapped and I went over on it. It was really painful but I didn\'t want to ruin the night for everyone so we went on to the first bar.I began to feel better after a couple of drinks. But then the next thing I knew I\'d passed out and was in the back of an ambulance.\"
It was later revealed that Sophie had broken her ankle and this led to an operation and several weeks in plaster. This meant that she had to give up her part time job and could no longer participate in sporting activities.
The case took more than 3 years to settle after Sophie was able to prove that she had recently bought the shoes and that this was the first time that she had worn them. The case was complicated by the fact that Dolcis went into Administration in January. Parent company Alexon, however, admitted that the shoes were faulty and was ordered to pay £7,200 under the Sale of Goods Act. Experts are predicting that this case could set the precedent for a number of similar cases. Thousands of people across the U.K are affected by trip injuries, but many of these are trivialised. Gina Simpson of Wirral personal injury compensation claims company Aegis Law commented on the case:
\"It may be easy to trivialise trip injuries, but in many cases, such as that of Sophie King, they can have serious and wide consequences. There may have been many people who questioned the validity of the claim due to the fact that she was on a night out and could have fallen due to inebriation. Sophie was lucky that she was able to prove that she had recently bought the shoes; if she had worn them several times then it could have been a different story. \"There are thousands of people across the North West who have been affected by a trip injury, due to the negligence of others. Aegis specialise in helping these people to get compensation for their injuries.\"
