Press Release Body: Duplin Winery, the oldest and largest winery in the South, partners with the John Locke Foundation and the North Carolina History Project in a stage presentation of A Living History with General George Washington and General Sir William Howe on October 10 and 11.
Prior to becoming the first President of the United States of America, George Washington led the fight against the British. He forced a British retreat in Boston, succumbed to General Howe in New York, and crossed the Delaware River into Trenton, New Jersey for a surprising victory. Despite Washington’s successes, General Howe outmaneuvered him in Pennsylvania on September 26, 1777. The American rebellion was strong and General Howe was unable to hold his position. Rumor has it the General was sympathetic to the Patriot cause.
The American Historical Theatre’s Dean Malissa (George Washington) and Robert Gleason (William Howe) bring these famous generals to life in an event of historical proportions. The conversation between these characters, which are primary catalysts in creating the foundation of our great country, will include discussions on the causes, hardships, and events surrounding the American Revolutionary War. Audience participation is invited and encouraged.
The event includes a tour of historic Duplin Winery, conviviality hour, and dinner theater. Duplin Winery produces over 270,000 cases annually and has a production capacity of over 1,000,000 gallons in its state-of-the art production facility. A tour is followed by a reception featuring conversation, hors d’oeuvres and select wines. Dinner is prepared by The Bistro Restaurant and each course is perfectly paired with Duplin wines. Washington and Howe come to life on the stage at 7:30pm.
