Thailand visitors will be able to learn more about one of the nation's most celebrated monarchs during the King Narai Fair in Lopburi in February 2012.

To take place at the Phra Narai Ratchanivet Palace between February 16th and 22nd, the festival is being held to commemorate the birthday of the former Thai ruler, incorporating traditional merit-making ceremonies and ancient rituals.

King Narai the Great's reign came during the 1600s and coincided with a period of great prosperity for Lopburi, which was made the second capital of Siam by the monarch.

The king was renowned for his keen intellect and appreciation for technology and advanced culture, being the first Siamese leader to make diplomatic contact with France and building the Phra Narai Ratchanivet Palace over a period of 12 years.

During the fair, guests will be able to learn more about the king's accomplishments, while enjoying an open air market, cultural processions and a fashion show of traditional Thai dress.

It culminates with a mini light-and-sound and multimedia presentation for all the family.

The fair is one of many cultural attractions in Lopburi, which is home to all manner of Buddhist temples, shrines and monuments.

A comprehensive range of Thailand hotels are available to those interested in local culture at AsiaRooms.com, such as the Pasak Hillside Resort.
